And the story goes on...

A new super series (not only) for the enthusiasts.

So far the Grobschnitt-Story with CDs from recordings out of Eroc’s archives is more or less just a glimpse on the band’s work from 1971 to 1983. This introduction was launched in 1994 and meanwhile consists of 12 albums chaptered into six parts. Part 3 itself consists of five separate albums concentrating on Solar Music, the band’s signpiece besides Rockpommel’s Land. The whole thing will be updated by two more albums until 2009 and then is completed. Carefully compiled, each element affectionately restored and presented in great detail with text and pictures,  the interested enthusiast and the true fan as well gets a fundamental overview on the history of this unique German band.

2007 the real Grobschnitt-Story was launched, an extensive retrospective especially designed for those who want to lift all treasures existing and would give anything just to can dive again into this particular live-feeling, which hasn’t left them since then. But also for those who never saw Grobschnitt on stage but meanwhile got curious by the first issues of The Story, the brandnew label „Silver Mint Records“ launches a small low-priced series, which is a true ticket to the past.

In the future twice a year complete unedited live-recordings of Grobschnitt-concerts will be released, dating back to the years 1971 to 1983. These recordings mainly occur from Eroc’s archives, some few also were provided by fans and friends. Release will take place each May and November presenting a bulk of three single CDs, each one containing one half of an original concert. For only 36,50 Euros (incl. p&p worldwide) you’ll get all three albums of each bunch with up to 80 minutes total time each – your “ticket” for a real great journey into the past.

To keep this low price, we cut out expensive package, booklet and handsigned autograph, but each album is professional remastered from the o-tapes by Eroc himself, as always. You can order each CD or each set via email direct from Eroc at:

Bunch 10 in December 2011 marked a jubilee and presented a very special issue: CD 028 shows a glimpse behind the origins of the album "Merry-Go-Round" (1979). You'll hear the tracks "Come On People", "Merry-Go-Round" and "A.C.Y.M." in various previously unreleased versions from their origin between 1978 and 1979. There are e.g. variations without vocals and alternative mixes from Eroc out of the Rüssl-Studio showing these songs in a completely different form.

CD 029 brought the first half of the legendary gig from January 1977 in the "House Of Youth" in Lünen (Westfalia). This show is known from the recording of "Solar Music Lünen", released in 2003 on issue 4 of the "History Of Solar Music". Here Grobschnitt performs absolutely fresh and naughty like they used to do in their early days.

CD 030 contained a summary of the show in Trier / Europahalle from November 1979. On board: Rockpommel's Land and Solar Music. The atmo in the audience is overwhelming - a very special concert from Grobschnitt, which took place in a similar form two years later in the same location, to be released in an upcoming SMR-issue.

The eternal question about the original albums…

In the 80’s Metronome released some of the original albums on CD. Those were plain 1:1 transfers from the studiotapes, done via the new developed and rather worse working digital technology at that time. So the first CD-releases sounded weak and flat and sometimes hissy, too. In 1998 the Hamburg company Repertoire Records started another effort, got the license from Universal (follower of Metronome) and  released the albums „Grobschnitt“, „Jumbo“, „Rockpommel’s land“, „Solar Music Live“ and Merry Go Round“on CD again. This time better technology was involved and they hired Eroc himself for the remastering who really did a superb job at that time. In 2005 Universal suddenly withdrawed the license from Repertoire and since then everything was “off the air”, which seems to turn out as a local break before the ultimate attack: in October 2007 Universal decided to launch the "final" CD-reissue of the whole Grobschnitt and other KRAUT backcatalogue via SPV Records. These were remastered again by Eroc from the original analog tapes by use of the latest state-of-art technology. Starting off were the GS-albums "Rockpommel's Land" and "Jumbo", later followed by "Ballermann", "Illegal" and "Solar Music Live" , together with other reissues from e.g. Atlantis, Frumpy, Guru Guru, Jane and others on SPV.

In 2009 SPV suddenly went bancroft. That meant a total stop for all these re-releases. Later the remains of SPV signed a distribution contract with SONY leading into a complete withdrawal from Universal for all KRAUT re-releases. So presently there are no more CDs of all these wonderful designed and remastered CDs available on the market. Due to Universal they think of handling this backcatalogue themselves for the future, but so far no activities into this direction are noticeable.

Two single exceptions: by force of the concerning bands themselves Eroc is presently working on two big remastering-projects, which will be released in 2011 by Universal. The first are the two albums "Helios" and "Boaphenia" from Phillip Boa & The Voodoclub, a band which Eroc had produced in the 80s and 90s. And the second will be a 4-CD box plus DVD from Jane, one of the most famouse KRAUT bands of the 70s and 80s.

The eternal question about live-videos…

Unfortunately there is no chance at this point for a release of videos from the decades of the great appearances. That depends on sudden circumstances but also on the band itself. Of course there is a lot of great material from the past existing, but there is no consens among the former members concerning a release and there are no ceative contacts to the owners of this material. So the only thing still keeping „the greatest German live act“ (as called by many true fans still today) alive as a film in people’s heads is the Grobschnitt Story from Eroc. The biggest and best sounding documentary of a former band it is already...

THOSE TO BE REMEMBERED FOREVER...

In January 2010 our former roadie and actor Detlef Büdenbender ("D. Rohr") passed away. He joined Grobschnitt from 1975 until 1979 and was knows for his spontaneous ideas and happenings in the show. He is to be seen as the "death with fire-cross" on the backside of the album "Solar Music Live" (1978) as well as on the picture above from 1976, standing on the right side playing the tambourine.

On July 2nd, 2008 our friend and longtime keyboard player and composer  Volker Kahrs ("Mist") died at the age of 57. Volker was a member of Grobschnitt from 1973 until 1981 and was instrumental in shaping the sound of the band with his contributions to "Rockpommel's Land" and "Solar Music". His keyboard talents can be heard on the albums "Ballermann", "Jumbo", "Rockpommel's Land", "Solar Music Live", "Merry-Go-Round", "Volle Molle", and "Illegal". He is also heard on most of Eroc's Grobschnitt Story.

We also miss our bassplayer Wolfgang Jäger (Hunter / "Popo") who passed away on May 3rd, 2007, at the age of only 54. Hunter accompanied us from 1975 until 1980 and is to be heard on the albums Jumbo, Rockpommel's land, Solar Music Live, Merry-Go-Round and Volle Molle, as well as in many parts of the Grobschnitt-Story.
